Another Poignant Economic Guest Post By Chuck Bergman

To Whom: Jon Stewart has apparently been unable to make CNBC see what you have become....shills for anyone looking to make a quick buck. I understand that you have 17 live hours to fill, but everyday you place before the public snake-oil salespeople in perfect suits and ties. Fortunately most people no longer take your station, your hosts, or many of your guests seriously.

One of today's 'experts' was someone, working somewhere, who clearly was a short player in the financials. The discussion by him and with one of your hosts was about which major would be torn apart and when, and he guaranteed that by market close all the financials would be lower. I'm assuming he got his mid-day swoon enough to make a nice day trade, but where is CNBC's responsibility in letting this joker broadcast his personal desires under the guise of analysis? At least have the decency to have him right back on after the close to face up to his errors.

But you did that for a period of time....had a guest on and replayed some of their earlier speculations. I'm assuming that stopped because your guest list shrank rapidly...17 hoursto fill is 17 hours after all. I'll be watching the opinionated FOX....at least they're honest about their stance.

Let's All Make Fun Of Twitter

Because I just starting twittering, tweeting, or whatever the hell the verb is, I thought it a good chance to make fun of it. Here's my two cents on Twitter:

As a brand/company/artist, this is a great way to speak directly to your brand loyalists. They've chosen to follow your brand more intimately and what a tool to speak to them directly.

As an individual, this puts narcissism into a whole new category.

Did Jennifer Aniston Break Up With John Mayer Because Of Twitter?

Jennifer Aniston broke up with John Mayer two weeks ago, their second shot at a relationship, but at least she had a good reason. She went to Europe to promote “Hotel for Dogs” or whatever it was, and while she was there he updated his twitter page a lot. That no-good son of a bitch. A source tells the Daily Mail...

“John suddenly stopped calling her or returning her e-mails and when she would finally catch up with him, he'd say, 'I've been so busy with work. I'm sorry I haven't had time to call you back.' Jen was fuming. There he was, telling her he didn't have time for her and yet his page was filled with Twitter updates. Every few hours, sometimes minutes, he'd update with some stupid line. And in her mind, she was like, “He has time for all this Twittering but he can't send me a text, an email, make a call?"

“Unimpressed” and “infuriated” were two of the words attributed to [Aniston] about Mayer updating his twitter page. Interacting with fans, in other words. It’s hard to believe a fantastic lady like this can’t stay in a relationship isn’t it?

Morsel Of Advertising Truth

Courtesy of Matt Freeman at SFBIG this morning...

"It's not about how may ads you show, but the impression they make."
- Bill Bernbach 1959

Seemingly obvious piece of truth, but ask yourselves how many times per day you actually take the idea into account....and I work for an ad network....REACH! FREQUENCY!

Business models evolve and creativity rules in this industry. If you don't believe how an ad network can do it, just ask me.

Apple iPhone Software Version 3.0 Tomorrow

Apple is scheduled to make an iPhone announcement Tuesday, and you may have seen the reports from Fortune and others: Kevin Rose of Digg says the iPhone 3.0 software will support copy and paste (finally!!!) and bring the phone’s feature list up to par with the upcoming Palm Pre.

Rose also cites his source as saying that there will be no background applications for the iPhone, no video and no multimedia messages (MMS) this release.

But hopefully Apple will announce its long-promised iPhone push-notification system (which will make things like instant messaging actually useful).

Of course, we’ll find out exactly what we’ll be getting Tuesday. But speculating about what Apple will do is half the fun, right?

A Restaurant With Sneakers On The Desert Menu?

Looking at a hard copy of Scuderia’s menu, there’s one item that is necessary to mention. It’s tucked under the dessert list: “Le Scarpe di Scudera – Limited edition hand painted sneakers made to order. Ask a manager for deets.” What? Sure, Scuderia aims to be hipper and younger than its sister spot, Da Silvano, and we admit to a weakness for restaurant apparel, but we’re talking $6 Wo Hop shirts, not $895 custom kicks! Then again, if a sneaker shop can serve collard greens, why can’t an eatery sell sneaks? (courtesy New York Magazine)

This article proves why I should be living in New York...I could be getting custom made sneaker's at Solefood while getting my fill of Sylvia's fried chicken.

iTunes 8.1 coming soon

Following the release of the new iPod shuffle, it appears iTunes 8.1 is on its way. It’s not going to be a big release, but as with the new desktop line, there will be a few small changes to enhance the application further.

iTunes 8.1 will respond quicker when syncing your iPod/iPhone, loading large libraries and when you’re browsing the iTunes Store. I personally hope this lives up to expectations, because syncing the iPhone can be quite painful with a lot of applications. It’s slowly been getting better, but a speed boost would certainly be great.

If you’re a fan of Genius, you’ll be glad to hear it’s coming to your movies and TV shows, too! I’ve only used it once or twice to create a few playlists, but I have been introduced to some great tracks through it, too. This is the part I’ll be looking forward to especially for TV shows.

If that isn’t enough for you, any music you import from CD will be a higher quality. 256-Kbps iTunes Plus (AAC) files to be precise. You will be able to change from the default, if you preferred MP3 files, but the 256Kbps AAC is the same encoding used for the iTunes Store, and is a brilliant quality for your music.

Usain Bolt Making Cristiano Ronaldo Faster?

If what The Sun is reporting is in fact true, tthen there isn't a defender in the world who has a chance to defend Ronaldo, as if they had one to begin with.

CRISTIANO RONALDO has signed up the fastest man on Earth to help boost his deadly pace.
Olympic 100m champ Usain Bolt asked the Manchester United star for a signed shirt and Ron sent a message back saying he wanted a favour in return.

So footy-fan Bolt - who set a world record 9.69 seconds winning his Beijing gold last year - is planning a trip to Manchester for a training session with Ronaldo.

The Jamaican’s agent Ricky Simms said: “It’s definitely going to happen.

“We’ll sort something out when Usain comes to Europe to compete this summer.

Providing Energy From Wind, A Story From Malawi

Thanks to The Pocket for finding such a valuable story and cause for us all to get behind.

William Kamkwamba is a 22 year old from Malawi. During his freshman year in high school, a nasty drought brought hard times to his family's farm in Masitala Village two and a half hours outside of Malawi's capital. They could no longer afford his education, and he was forced to drop out. William began educating himself on the mechanics of renewable energy by borrowing books from a local library. With astounding do-it-yourself ingenuity, he started experimenting with building a windmill in the backyard of his family farm. With great success. And so William's remarkable story begins.

Visit William's blog to follow his story and donate money to his cause, if you are so inclined.

Jon Stewart Hands It To CNBC and Rick Santelli

A sound 8 minutes of analysis on the analysts. Apparently each time CNBC says anything, the market reacts adversely. Quite intriguing.
