It's Official...GM Is DUmping Pontiac?

One of our nations oldest corporations crumbling is terrifying for our countries economic place in this global market.

General Motors Corp. (GM) said Monday it will cut 21,000 hourly jobs and eliminate its Pontiac brand by the end of next year as part of a stepped-up restructuring plan.

The auto maker will also start an exchange offer for $27 billion of its unsecured public notes as the company looks to become viable, saying a successful exchange offer would allow it to stay out of bankruptcy court.

GM, which is surviving on federal loans, is racing to restructure by June 1 under close ...

Feiyue Sneakers Bringing Back The Digicrest Shoe World

At long last, a new sneaker post. This find comes from the coolhunter, as do many things that are beyond the comprehension of your standard hipster. These babies are low cut, relaxed and real sick. Feiyue Shoes not only are real sick and casual, but have an awesome story behind them too...

Take a brand that has history and tradition. Inject some freshness and collaborate with a hip artist. Formula – Success. One such example is the re-birth of Feiyue Shoes from Shanghai. Originally created in the 1920s, Feiyue became famous in the 30s for its association with the martial arts. Freiyue symbolizes the dual elevation of both body and mind. Feiyue actually translates to “flying forward”. Fast forward to 2005 and you have Patrice Bastian (a major sneaker freaker) who decided that these shoes could lend themselves to being the new item du jour. They were flexible and light by nature and had a great retro feel. With the services of graphic designer Charles Munka, the new image of Feiyue was created. It has since then gained momentum for being original yet classic and incredibly comfortable. Keeping up with the trends of today, you can choose between fresh, unadorned white, grey marle, artist prints or limited-edition designer styles.

Lots of different designs in both simple canvas as well as leather, Feiyue has a sick story and the stye to go with it.

Hulu iPhone App Coming Soon

Safe to say this will be the greatest iPhone app in the history of the app store...

Silicon Alley Insider is reporting that a dedicated Hulu application is indeed on its way to the iPhone and should be here in just a few months. SAI says the application will work over Wi-Fi and AT&T's 3G network, meaning that users will be able to view programming anywhere with a fast data connection.

Rumors suggesting that an iPhone-friendly version of Hulu swirled around this time last year, however, they predated the launch of the App Store, and Hulu flat-out denied that one was being worked on.

This time around, though, it's far more plausible, with the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0 software update, which lets developers bake streaming media into their applications. For Hulu, this means that the advertising could be stuck into the mobile stream and that users would be able to watch videos without leaving the application.

One of the things that keep this rumor from holding water is that Hulu is in direct competition with Apple's iTunes business. Users of Hulu can watch ad-supported, full-length television shows and movies on their personal computers for free, instead of paying Apple to download a copy for offline viewing.

If such an app were available on the iPhone, it would also offer portable TV and movie watching, something not yet offered in Apple's own mobile iTunes app, which is limited to video podcasts. In past instances of this, the company has simply denied applications such as Podcaster from making it through the app approval process, only to launch it as a first party feature later on.

On the other hand, some of Hulu's competitors have already gotten a foot in the door, including Joost and CBS-owned TV.com, which has its own iPhone application that streams in content in chunks. In addition, Google's YouTube, whose application comes preinstalled on the iPhone, has recently reached an agreement with major studios, including Sony Pictures, Lions Gate Entertainment, and CBS (publisher of CNET News), to offer visitors full-length TV shows and feature films.

If Hulu can't manage to pull off getting advertisements in the stream, using this system, it would be fairly simple to force users to sit through advertisements between clips.

Some Crazy Stats About Interent Usage

Remeber when there was like 2 television stations and a newspaper in this country?

111 different domains, on an average of 56 seconds means we are all basically goldfish circling our bowls which double as the internet. An endless search for content while barely taking any of it in.

San Francisco Is The Least Wasteful City!

I love calling this place home....

Do you spend your days traipsing around San Francisco? Then congratulations, you live in America's least wasteful city according to a study conducted by Nalgene. The water bottle company questioned 3,750 people in America's 25 largest cities about their transportation use, waste, sustainability efforts, shopping habits, and reuse of items. Nalgene weighted the results to give preference to behaviors with an immediate and significant impact like driving less, recycling more, and reducing trash. The survey's index is based on a scoring system with a potential individual high score of 1930 and a low individual score of 193.

San Franciscans topped Nalgene's list thanks to widespread habits of recycling, turning off the water while brushing teeth, and only using cars for short trips. 86% of San Franciscans also reported that they live an "extremely" or "somewhat" eco-friendly lifestyle, though the definition of an eco-friendly lifestyle is not made clear in the study.

Atlanta came in at the other end of the spectrum, with residents ranking the worst at recycling, throwing out less than two bags of trash a week, using reusable containers, participating in sustainability programs, using energy-efficient lightbulbs, and borrowing books from the library.

Nalgene, of course, had its own motivation for conducting the study. The company recently came under fire for using Bisphenol A (BPA), an estrogen-like chemical, in its water bottles. Nalgene did eventually pull BPA-filled water bottles from the shelves, but the wastefulness study could be the company's attempt to get back in the good graces of eco-minded consumers.

The full list of America's least wasteful cities is below:

Kal Penn Joins White House Team

Yes, Kal Penn who broke into the Hollyweird scene as Van Wilder's lovable Banglapoor-ean (?) Taj, has been appointed as an associate director in the Office of Public Liason. Yeah, the clip leads to Taj very discretely discussing his plans for de-virginizing himself.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House has hired actor Kal Penn as a liaison between President Barack Obama's administration and Hollywood.
White House spokesman Shin Inouye said Tuesday that the actor who has a recurring role on Fox's TV show "House" and has starred in several movies would join the staff as an associate director in the Office of Public Liaison. His role will be to connect Obama with the Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities, as well as arts and entertainment groups.
Penn starred as Kumar in the movie, "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay."
Penn was an Obama supporter during the campaign. The White House says a start date for Penn hasn't been set.
The hire was first reported by Entertainment Wee
kly.

I really wish I knew more details here but the story is only a few hours old so more to come. Any man who stands besides Van Wilder's bulldog is cool in my book.

The Soccer Project: A Documentary Film In Progress

A wonderful documentary is in the making about a couple ex- college players making a film about pickup soccer around the world. Hoping to be as powerful as How Soccer Explains The World, the documentary intends to show how bonds are built and gaps breached around the world through the game of futbol. Think of the Ivory Coast around the 2006 World Cup.

Creativity Online Presents 'Umbro: Tailored By England'

An unbelievably cool video from Creativity Online presents the English's football team's new look for South Africa 2010. The development of the kit, or uniform to Yanks, goes through the same process as would a fine suit. A great deal of input from Fabio Capello, the England manager, as well as players Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, John Terry and others, all contributed to what will be one of the mnore recognizable kits in the year leading up to the next World Cup. An amazing process for a company and footballing nation with unparralleled history in the sport.
